Ikal's artistic journey is not confined to the click of a camera alone. While photography is his foundational love, he finds solace in the strokes of a brush, the digital realm, and even the transformative power of mixed media. These diverse mediums serve as the canvases upon which his visual tales unfold, transcending the boundaries of the tangible world.

Q: What initially drew you to your chosen medium or art form, and what keeps you engaged and inspired to continue creating?

The magnetic pull of artistic expression first gripped me with the click of my inaugural photograph. Armed with a petite digital camera I remember, I instinctively gravitated toward the timeless allure of black and white photography. In the absence of color, I found a profound depth, a chiaroscuro world where emotions and contrasts danced in elegant harmony. This initial encounter sculpted my artistic identity, shaping my palette and mediums. Today, more than 90% of my creations exist in this dualistic realm, where shades of black and white weave narratives of their own.

What propels my artistic spirit is an unyielding need for creation, a primal urge to articulate my emotions through diverse mediums. Photography, my foundational love, provides the canvas upon which my visual tales unfold. Yet, my artistic odyssey doesn't confine itself to the click of a camera. I find solace in the strokes of a brush. In the digital realm, including photography, paint, AI & mixed media between these mediums they go through a metamorphose into intricate peculiar pieces, transcending the boundaries of the tangible world. It's this ceaseless exploration, this boundless need to manifest my innermost feelings through the intricate dance of light & form, that keeps me not just engaged but passionately inspired to create. Each medium, a unique language, allows me to speak the unspoken, capturing the ineffable essence of my soul in every creation.

the inspiration

Q: Can you describe your creative process? How do you generate ideas, and how do you bring them to life in your work?

My creative process begins with an immersive exploration of the subject, during which I pay close attention to detail and composition principles such as the rule of thirds and the golden ratio guide me. I capture the nuances and intricacies, making certain that each element flows smoothly within the frame. Beyond the lens, the art of curation takes precedence. The raw material is refined into a compelling unique piece through careful selection that takes into account technical excellence and emotional resonance. The careful interplay of capturing and curating gives life to my ideas, transforming them into visual narratives that strike a deep chord with the viewer.

Q: Many artists have a particular theme or message that they explore through their art. What central themes or ideas do you find yourself consistently drawn to, and why?

My artistic pursuits are deeply entrenched in the investigation of geometry and its symbolism. Geometry, which is everywhere but incredibly profound, is a never-ending source of inspiration. Its everlasting patterns may be found in both the natural world and human creation, evoking a global language that unites us all. I am drawn to geometric forms because of their accuracy, balance, and wholeness, which mirror the equilibrium I seek in the intricacies of life. Geometry has tremendous intellectual and spiritual value, expressing order in the midst of chaos. Cubes, circles, triangles, and spirals offer layers of significance to my art, allowing it to convey messages of wholeness, strength, and progress.

finding middle ground

Q: How do you navigate the balance between staying true to your artistic vision and meeting the expectations or demands of the audience or art market?

A nuanced approach is required to navigate the delicate balance between my artistic vision and external expectations. While I respect the essence of my distinct style, which is defined by the mesmerizing simplicity of black and white photography and distinct elements, I am open to small changes. I believe in the progression of artistic expression and view audience or art market comments as important insights rather than limits. It's about striking a balance that preserves my creative authenticity while allowing for growth and interpretation. I frequently see audience expectations as a source of inspiration, a discourse that feeds rather than dictates my work. This symbiotic relationship between my vision and the audience's expectations enriches my creative process, fostering a dynamic interplay that ultimately refines and elevates my art, ensuring it resonates deeply while still evolving organically.

Q: Artistic expression can be deeply personal and introspective. How do you handle vulnerability and emotional exposure in your work, and how does it affect you as an artist?

This vulnerability, in my opinion, is a source of enormous strength rather than a source of weakness. I've shared the depths of my soul with the world through my work. This transparency, while intimidating at first, has allowed me to form deep connections with my audience. True human experiences are shared and understood through this naked honesty, which builds a bridge between the artist and the observer. This vulnerability, paradoxically, strengthens me; it liberates my creativity, allowing for a genuine, unfiltered expression of my thoughts and feelings. This type of expression reaffirms the authenticity of my work, reminding me that art is not merely about creation but also about connection, connecting with others on a visceral, emotional level. It's in this raw, exposed state that art becomes a powerful catalyst for understanding, empathy, and shared human experiences.

the influence

Q: Are there any artists or art movements that have had a significant influence on your style or approach? How have they inspired and shaped your artistic journey?

Certainly, a wide range of influences, from renowned artists to architects and most importantly my own family, have had a profound impact on my artistic journey. From Man Ray’s surreal and experimental darkroom techniques to Henri Cartier Bresson masterful compositions, each artist has provided a unique perspective that has resonated deeply with my own vision. Sebastião Salgado's poetic black and white photography to Remedios Varo's fantastical worlds & Tadao Ando’s architectural minimalism have all contributed to my art's multifaceted nature. Ansel Adams breathtaking monochromatic landscapes, Roger Ballen's enigmatic Ballenesque style & Zdzisaw Beksiski's profound personal thoughts have as well enriched my artistic sensibilities.

Nonetheless, my family remains the foundational cornerstone of my life, instilling core values in me since childhood. These collective influences not only influenced my artistic style, but also encouraged me to investigate the intricate interplay of light, form and emotions, guiding me toward a distinct artistic identity that combines tradition and innovation.

Q: In the creative process, artists often encounter challenges or roadblocks. Can you share a specific instance where you faced a significant obstacle, and how did you overcome it?

This is going to be a very personal answer. Particularly in the realm of NFTs, can be both exhilarating and intimidating. The difficulty of navigating spaces like Twitter, where self-promotion is frequently important, triggered me what I call "digital social anxiety." Participating in conversations and promoting my work online became a significant barrier, forming an image of an artist who was disconnected from the community. Recognizing the challenge, on the other hand, became the first step toward overcoming it. It was critical to embrace the supportive nature of the NFT community, where fellow artists understand the vulnerability of sharing one's work. Small steps, such as participating in online discussions or joining art-related spaces, have gradually assisted me in finding my voice. It's an ongoing process, in the art world I’ve discovered that authenticity resonates far more than constant self promotion. I've begun to bridge the gap between my introverted nature and the demands I am facing by focusing on genuine interactions and openly sharing my creative journey. It's a journey of development that I'm navigating with patience and determination, knowing that each small interaction is a step closer to overcoming my ‘’digital social anxiety.’’

Q: Collaboration can be a powerful force in art. Have you ever collaborated with other artists or professionals from different disciplines? If so, what was the experience like, and how did it impact your work?

Oh ! yes, I have collaborated collectively in the physical world & once in the NFTs world, working with another artist particularly another NFT photographer, has undoubtedly been a profoundly enriching experience. This collaboration provided a window into each other's creative processes, fostering a digital friendship beyond the amalgamation of our artistic visions. I learned not only about the technical aspects of photography but also about the essence of our shared passion through our collaborative artistic endeavor. This interaction extended beyond the realms of art, providing insights into personal experiences and forming a comprehensive understanding of the person behind the lens. Exploring the synergy between our distinct styles not only broadened my artistic horizons, but also provided a rare opportunity for introspection. Seeing how our creative energies interlaced demonstrating the beauty of collaborative synergy, demonstrating how diverse perspectives can harmonize to create something beautiful.
